Gold Price

The gold price has, as we all know, reached some historical heights over the past few months. Scared of the inflation, investors invest in the one thing where central bankers have no influence on: gold. This tendency has had some major consequences on our trade. As a jeweller working with gold is less convenient than 70 years ago. If you had bought some gold in 1941 you would only be able to buy 27 % of the same amount of gold today. To visualize this conclusion I scaled a traditional ring. This ring is worth the same amount of money (keeping the influence of inflation in mind) as the full size ring you could have bought in 1941. The diamond that once fitted in the ring, doesn’t fit anymore.

Goldrush, a song from Coldplay is the perfect background tune!
